At a recent visit to Kensington Market’s Pedestrian Sundays event, I spied these three children successfully performing a canine exorcism on this perky puppy. The demons were sent into a nearby rack of fresh empanadas, which were later consumed by a family of four who promptly sprouted cloven hoofs and tails. Close call, pup.

The cats of Kensington Market live a squalid existence, subsisting on castoff fish guts and the occasional handout of questionable provenance from departing Roach-O-Rama patrons. We got this one into treatment just in time. I’m hopeful for her future, but staff at the clinic tell me that brownies keep disappearing from the communal kitchen. It’s a long road, Augusta, but it’s worth it.
